2024 Glenlee Anniversary Lecture

'Art and performance aboard Clydebuilt ocean liners’

presented by

Professor Faye Hammill and Professor Bruce Peter

Ocean liners built at Fairfield’s, John Brown’s and other Clyde shipyards were not simply machines for transport – they were also galleries for modern painting, sculpture and design, as well as stages for performances from fashion shows to charity concerts. This lecture explores art and spectacle aboard ships such as the Franconia, the three Empresses of Britain and the Queen Mary.
